I am attending Davis Applied Technology College to change career fields and learn new skills to land a job that will be fun, lucrative, stable, and most importantly a career that offers good retirement. I am now building a career in the Information Technology (IT) field; I have always enjoyed working on and with computers. Many people have said that I am very smart and natural with computers; taking apart, repairing and connecting computers seems very simple logical to me, but the real fun is when I decompile software and tinker with the programming to change different aspects to my liking. I enjoy learning especially when I have succeeded and have a working product made the way I wanted it, I just love that feeling of accomplishment. In addition, I just have an overwhelming desire for information technology.
I am taking huge personal costs to change careers. First off, I had to liquidate my business of eight years and left an industry I have been in for the last 16 years. To top that, I moved my wife and two children from California to Utah and moved in with my parents. My wife does not support the idea of living with my parents, which makes this aspect my largest cost of changing career fields. I have dedicated my full-time attention to go to school so I can excel in my studies to achieve the knowledge and desires that will make companies want to have me on their team.
My hope is that I am recommended to a company while still finishing my studies at DATC and asked to join their workforce by the time I complete my time here. My first and main goal upon completion at DATC is to acquire a full-time career job as quickly as possible. After obtaining stable employment I plan on continuing my education in the IT field and will obtain further certificates such as Android Application Development, Objective-C Programming, iOS Application Development, Visual C# .NET 4.0, Visual Basic 2010, ASP .NET Applications, Oracle Certified Associate Java SE, and other related courses. After I complete those courses, I will work towards a bachelor’s degree and hopefully go for masters.
